Chamomile Roman
Chamaemelum nobile
Roman chamomile has a soft, warm scent that seems to quieten the space around it.
Sweet. Herbal. Fruity. Gentle.
It does not rush into the room. It settles in slowly.
That is what I like about Roman chamomile. It brings a feeling of comfort.
The Apple of the Ground
The name chamomile comes from old Greek words meaning “apple of the ground.” It is a beautiful name for a small flower.
Chamomile grows close to the earth, and its flowers carry a gentle, apple-like sweetness.
For centuries, people have grown it in gardens, gathered its flowers and used it in simple evening rituals.
A cup of chamomile tea. A warm bath. A fragrant bundle beside the bed.
A flower associated with rest, comfort and care.
Roman Chamomile
There are several kinds of chamomile. The one we use is Roman chamomile, known botanically as Chamaemelum nobile.
It is a low-growing plant with small white flowers and sunny yellow centres.
From those delicate flowers comes an essential oil with surprising depth.
Softly sweet. Warm and herbaceous. A little fruity.
Almost like an apple resting among fresh green leaves.
The Scent
Sweet · Warm · Herbal · Fruity · Soft
Roman chamomile begins with a delicate floral sweetness.
Then comes its distinctive apple-like note. Underneath is something green, herbaceous and quietly earthy.
It is gentle, but not faint. Soft, but full of character.
A scent that encourages you to slow down.

Why I Keep It Around
Roman chamomile is one of my favourite oils when the day needs a gentler ending.
For the Evening
A few drops in a diffuser can help create a quieter atmosphere before bed.
For a Warm Bath
Properly dispersed in a suitable bath base, Roman chamomile can make an evening bath feel especially comforting.
For Massage
When appropriately diluted in a carrier oil, its warm aroma works beautifully in a slow shoulder, neck or foot massage.
For the Skin
Roman chamomile is often chosen for gentle skincare and body-care preparations, especially when the skin needs a calm, comforting routine.
For Difficult Days
Sometimes it is not about doing very much. Opening the bottle, breathing in the aroma and taking a quiet moment can be a small ritual of its own.
For Blending
Roman chamomile pairs beautifully with lavender for a soft evening blend. With lemon, it feels lighter and brighter. With peppermint, it becomes cool, fresh and gently balanced.
One Small Bottle
Roman chamomile is the oil I reach for when I want the day to soften.
For the diffuser. For the bath. For massage. For gentle skin rituals. For quiet evenings.
One small bottle. One small flower. And a gentle reminder that comfort can begin with something as simple as a familiar scent and a few quiet minutes.
