Coconut Oil

Cocos nucifera

Coconut oil is one of those simple ingredients that seems to belong everywhere.

In the kitchen. In the bathroom. In the hair. On the skin. A familiar oil with many small uses.

Pure. Smooth. Practical. Comforting.

That is what I like about coconut oil. It asks very little and gives us many ways to use it.

Coconut and coconut oil

The Tree of Life

The coconut palm is sometimes called the tree of life. Almost every part of the tree can be used.

The fruit provides water, milk, flesh and oil. The leaves can be woven. The husk and shell can be transformed into useful materials.

For generations, coconut has been part of everyday life in tropical places around the world.

Food. Care. Craft. Shelter.

One tree. Many purposes.

From Coconut to Oil

Coconut oil comes from the white flesh of the coconut.

Our plantsense Pure Natural Coconut Oil is cold pressed. This means the oil is extracted without relying on high heat during the pressing process.

The result is a simple, versatile oil that remains close to the coconut from which it came.

Not an Essential Oil

Coconut oil is a natural carrier oil rather than an essential oil.

It does not need to be diluted before ordinary topical use. In fact, it can be used to dilute concentrated essential oils before they are applied to the skin.

That makes coconut oil a very useful bottle to keep beside an essential-oil collection.

For Oil Pulling

Coconut oil is also traditionally used for oil pulling.

A small amount is gently swished around the mouth and between the teeth before being spat out. It is better described as swishing rather than gargling.

Do not swallow the used oil. Spit it into a bin rather than the sink, where coconut oil may cool and solidify.

Oil pulling is an optional traditional practice. It does not replace brushing, flossing or professional dental care.

For Cooking

plantsense Pure Natural Coconut Oil can also be used for cooking.

It can be used in baking, gentle frying and recipes where a natural coconut character is welcome.

One oil. A place in the bathroom. And a place in the kitchen.

The Scent and Texture

Soft · Natural · Creamy · Smooth · Familiar

Coconut oil has a gentle character. Nothing sharp. Nothing complicated.

Depending on how it has been processed, its natural coconut aroma may be noticeable or very subtle.

The texture changes with temperature. In a cooler room, coconut oil may become white and solid. In warmth, it becomes clear and liquid again.

This is completely natural and does not affect the quality of the oil.

Why I Keep It Around

Coconut oil is one of my favourite oils when I want something simple and versatile.

For the Body

Warm a small amount between the palms and smooth it over the skin, especially after a shower.

For Dry Areas

It is especially useful for hands, elbows, knees and heels when the skin feels dry.

For Massage

Its smooth texture makes it useful as a simple massage oil or as a base for a properly diluted essential-oil blend.

For the Hair

A small amount can be applied to the lengths and ends before shampooing as a pre-wash treatment.

For the Scalp

Some people enjoy using it as a scalp oil before washing. Begin with a small amount and shampoo thoroughly afterwards.

For Removing Makeup

A little coconut oil can help loosen makeup before the face is cleansed with a suitable facial wash.

For Blending

Coconut oil can be used as a carrier for essential oils. Always follow an appropriate dilution guide.

After the Shower

This may be my favourite way to use it.

Pat the skin until it is still slightly damp. Warm a little coconut oil between the hands. Then massage it slowly over the body.

The routine is simple. Warm skin. A smooth oil. A quiet moment before getting dressed.

One Simple Bottle

Coconut oil is the bottle I reach for when I want something uncomplicated.

For dry hands. For the body after a shower. For the hair. For massage. For essential-oil blending. For traditional oil pulling. For the kitchen.

One fruit. One pure oil. And many small ways to bring natural care into everyday life.

NATURAL OIL NOTE — For external use, patch test before wider application and avoid contact with the eyes. Discontinue use if irritation occurs. Coconut oil may not suit every skin or hair type.
Do not swallow oil after oil pulling. Oil pulling does not replace brushing, flossing or professional dental care.
Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Natural changes between solid and liquid are normal.
